Everything you need to know for a successful hemorrhoid treatment

Please read this guide carefully and follow all instructions. If you have any questions or concerns, contact our office at least 48 hours before your scheduled procedure.

Follow these steps to prepare for your procedure

One Week Before Surgery

Medication Review

Inform your doctor about all medications, including blood thinners, aspirin, and herbal supplements. Some may need to be discontinued.

Pre-Operative Assessment

Complete any required blood tests, ECG, or other medical evaluations as instructed.

Lifestyle Modifications

Stop smoking to promote better healing. Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours before surgery.

Three Days Before Surgery

Dietary Adjustments

Begin eating light, easily digestible foods. Increase fiber intake and drink plenty of water.

Prepare Recovery Supplies

Purchase stool softeners, pain medication, sitz bath supplies, and comfortable loose-fitting clothes.

Day Before Surgery

Bowel Preparation

Follow prescribed bowel preparation instructions. This may include laxatives or enemas as directed.

Fasting Instructions

Do not eat or drink anything after midnight (or as instructed by your anesthesiologist).

Prepare Your Bag

Pack ID, insurance cards, medical records, and a list of current medications.

Day of Surgery

Arrive Early

Arrive at least 1-2 hours before your scheduled surgery time for check-in and preparation.

Wear Appropriate Clothing

Wear loose, comfortable clothing and leave jewelry and valuables at home.

Bring a Companion

Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for at least 24 hours.

Medications to Avoid

Certain medications can increase bleeding risk or interfere with anesthesia. Please discuss these with your doctor:

  • Blood Thinners: Warfarin, Clopidogrel, Aspirin (unless prescribed)
  • NSAIDs: Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Diclofenac
  • Herbal Supplements: Ginkgo, Garlic, Ginseng, Fish Oil
  • Vitamin E: High doses can affect blood clotting

Emergency Contact

If you experience any of the following before surgery, contact us immediately:

  • Fever or signs of infection
  • Unexpected bleeding
  • Severe pain or discomfort
  • New or worsening symptoms
